I just got the word from Asho Productions about an event this Saturday morning, July 11th, entitled "Mothers and Hip Hop." It's going to be at 10 am, at the Eagle Academy for Young Men at the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice, School Number: 231. Address: 250 EAST 164 STREET BRONX, NY10456. Geographic District: 09 718-410-4210 nycenet.edu . The actual mommies of three big rap stars are going to make the scene, and talk about the educational crisis faciing young black men, ie. teenagers.
Featured will be Dr. Mahalia A. Hines, the mother of rapper/actor Common, Dr. Brenda Greene, the mother of Talib Kweli and Sheron Smith, the mother of Mos Def,on the "Saving Our Sons opening panel- Raising Him Alone.” Following the panel, hundreds of educators, and parents will give single mothers tips on how to raise young minority males. The conference starts at 10:00 AM. Other workshops scheduled for the day include sessions on fatherhood, anger management and encounters with law enforcement. More on Twitter.
I've always been interested in the Bronx Eagle Academy, so this should be a really great event.
